Tuesdays w/TJae:
Returning Home

Hey there, Reader, Happy Tuesday!

I've been away for a while - thought I'd pop in today.

I didn't mean to stay away from y'all so long. I've mostly just had my head down - trying to adjust to a world with fewer liberties and increasing trauma. AND trying with all my might to maintain my joy in the process.

I had such high expectations for 2025 - we were going to focus on Stories that Shape Us. And we started off strong with the Wicked-Ish Wednesdays and nothing else that I thought would happen in 2025 has happened.

Meanwhile - may things I never could have anticipated HAVE happened and isn't that just the way life goes?

Some of you already know this - if we're connected on Instagram or Patreon - but I'm just returning from my first trip to Europe.

I travelled with a colleague turned friend to Florence, Pisa and the Amalfi Coast. We saw lots of ancient beautiful buildings, had bruschetta that brought us to tears and saw some of the most incredible views I could ever imagine.

Being in another part of the world can make you VERY aware of the part of the world where you live. I noticed how helpful people were to me even though I don't speak Italian - and of course how many people speak English and a few other languages. Being from Houston, with really sad public transportation, I noticed the ease with which we were able to get around town and between cities. And I noticed how fresh the ingredients were for the meals we ate.

Certainly, there were hiccups which I explain in detail over on Patreon. Overall, though, I am so glad I had that experience.

Now I'm working my way back to Central time after being in the future for a week.

Today, I spent the full day working on a project that I'm very excited about and am geeked to share with you. If you're a paid subscriber on Patreon be sure to check your email because there is a very special invitation from me to help with the 2nd phase of this project.

Upcoming Talkback

I've been invited to facilitate a Talkback for a reading of the show Whitelisted next Wednesday, June 11 at 7:30pm at the Alley Theater as part of the Fade to Black Arts Festival. I hope you'll join us.

Enough about me. How are you? What are doing to #feedthehappy? What are you geeking about? What are you terrified of?

I was reminded this week - in a way that broke my heart - that multiple things can be true at the same time. And when we're lucky, we are able to hold space for all of it.

In case you're new to Tuesdays w/ TJae, you should know that you won't receive emails from me every Tuesday, or on any particular Tuesday - but always (well, normally) on a Tuesday. As a child, whenever we'd visit my Grandpa James, he'd end the visit by saying "See you Tuesday," no matter when we were scheduled to see him again. So this newsletter is part nod to James Rivers, and part nod to my love of alliteration.

See you Tuesday!

The Quiet Rebel 07.22.25 Tuesdays w/TJae: When Theo was Everything Share this, and previous newsletters. ↓ Hi, Reader, Happy-nonetheless Tuesday! Man! That one hurt . . . In September 1984, when The Cosby Show aired for the first time, I was in 7th grade—slightly awkward, adjusting hormones, and terribly moody. But Thursday nights gave me something to look forward to. Like so many others around the world, my family tuned in to spend time with The Huxtables. They were warm, funny, and...

The Quiet Rebel 07.01.25 Tuesdays w/TJae: What is True, What is Real - and What Comes Next Share this, and previous newsletters. ↓ Hi, Reader, Happy Tuesday! From 100 Voices to 100 Readers Lately, I’ve been thinking about liberty—and what it actually means in this moment. I revisited Frederick Douglass’ 1852 speech, What to the Slave is the Fourth of July? His words—clear, cutting, unflinching—are still echoing. In 2025, I wonder how many of us feel the weight of his critique. I wonder how...

The Quiet Rebel 04.15.25 Tuesdays w/TJae: Can you find your birth certificate? Share this, and previous newsletters. ↓ Reader, I'm tired. Are you tired? I don't want to upset you any further than you may be already. I care about our relationship and do not wish you any harm. AND . . . there's a few (more than a few - actually a shyt ton) things that require someone's attention. *I typed and deleted a sentence just now because I had a thought that feels more true.* ALL the things we have been...
