Tuesdays w/TJae: Executive Orders

Hey there, Reader! We made it to another Tuesday.

Executive Orders seems to have the community in a stronghold. . .

Maybe you're already familiar with the power of Executive Orders and maybe you're just now starting to pay attention because there have been SO many in fewer than 30 days.

In nearly every conversation I have had in the past few weeks, we manage to discuss the impact and dread that is rising because of them. The barrage is taking its toll on many of the people I know and the exhaustion knocks us off our feet and makes us want to disconnect.

Since the topic is coming up so often - let's talk about it - for real! We cannot disconnect - although breaks are encouraged and are necessary.

You may recall from our discussions on the US Constitution, or from your own studies of US history, that Executive Power is outlined in Article II, Section 1.

The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America. He shall hold his Office during the Term of four Years, and, together with the Vice President, chosen for the same Term, be elected, as follows . . . (expressed in following sections)

Although not expressly stated in the Constitution, this is where the idea of an Executive Order comes from.

The Executive uses these Orders to fast track things they would like to see as laws governing the United States while avoiding Congressional votes that would be required to make the law permanent. Each Executive, can use Orders to undo the Orders of previous Executives, so long as they stay WITHIN the Congressionally established law.

Congress is responsible for our laws - all the permanent ones!

All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.

For this reason, Executive Orders can be, and are from time to time, challenged by courts and, or Congress. If the Order(s) is found to be unlawful, it is overturned.

In the meantime - many individuals and organizations are feeling forced to comply with the, as of today, 65 Executive Orders of 2025. And the unfortunate fact that we must face is, we're required to comply UNTIL the Orders are overturned.

Additionally, let's be careful to not OVER comply or comply in advance. The hyperlink above will take you to a page where you can read the details of the Executive Orders. Read the details for yourself and follow the letter of the law until you have an alternative.

OR - actively resist the Orders which do not align with your values understanding there may be legal consequences for noncompliance. I can't tell you, and I won't try to decide for you, which avenue is best for you. Do the thing that keeps you safe and sane. And if you are in a position to wield your power, privilege or access - the right time to do that is right now.

5calls.org is one of several services available to let you share your concerns with your Congressional Representatives.

Last week I said if there was a recording from Houston Landing's HTX Storytelling Event, that I would share it with you. Many thanks to my friend who helped me edit it down to these 9 minutes. In case you're new to Tuesdays w/ TJae, you should know that you won't receive emails from me every Tuesday, or on any particular Tuesday - but always (well, normally) on a Tuesday. As a child, whenever we'd visit my Grandpa James, he'd end the visit by saying "See you Tuesday," no matter when we were scheduled to see him again. So this newsletter is part nod to James Rivers, and part nod to my love of alliteration.

See you Tuesday!

The Quiet Rebel 04.01.25 Tuesdays w/TJae: Filibusters and Protests Share this, and previous newsletters. ↓ Hey there, Reader! It's April 1st and you won't find a prank inside because there is plenty of foolishness and more than enough fools already . . . Last night I listened as long as I could to Senator Cory Booker as he launched into his speech. I had been referring to it as a filibuster, but I now understand that term is used specifically when the person intends to delay a vote. What...

The Quiet Rebel 03.11.25 Tuesdays w/TJae: Find Your Joy Share this, and previous newsletters. ↓ Hey there, Reader! Actively searching for joy. . . I promise Reader - every person I've asked, in the last few weeks, the standard "How are you doing?" has paused long and hard before responding. Frankly, so have I. If I have bubbles handy, I blow them. If not, I inhale and exhale deeply as if I do have bubbles. I know that there seems to be more and more each day to deal with and it's exhausting....

So - rather than bog you down with a bunch of information right now - I'm going to encourage you to step away...
