Happy Tuesday Reader!
Did you realize that SMART goals have shaped our workplaces for nearly four decades? By 2020, more than 65% of organizations had adopted them as a foundation for performance management - proof that clarity and structure matter.
We know how to set goals. We know how to measure results. What many of us are still learning is how to stay HUMAN in the process.
That’s where this next layer comes in. SMART. THINK. HUMAN. Each is valuable on its own — together, they form a fuller way of leading.
- SMART (Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic, Time-Bound) sharpens direction and accountability.
- THINK (True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, Kind) refines how we communicate along the way.
- HUMAN (Honest, Urgent, Meaningful, Accountable, Nuanced) restores depth and intention to both.
It’s not about replacing what works; it’s about completing the set. When these three overlap, we don’t just achieve outcomes . . . we cultivate alignment. Decisions become steadier. Conversations feel safer. And leadership starts to look less like performance and more like practice.
If you're interested in reading about this in more detail, I shared a WHOLE article about this on LinkedIn today. If you head over there, please (pretty please) leave a comment and . . . only if it resonates - please also hit some corresponding emoji and the share button.

Actively HUMAN is live in the world
On October 3rd, Actively HUMAN emerged: a tool that meets you where you are, with whatever you're facing, and walks you through thoughtful prompts that shift you from reaction to reflection, from automatic to aligned.

Here’s to finding the overlaps that make us whole, to remembering that being HUMAN is still a radical act, and to gathering in rooms - literal or otherwise - where story invites us to see ourselves again. LOVE first. Always. —TJae |

In case you're new to Tuesdays w/ TJae, you should know that you won't receive emails from me every Tuesday, or on any particular Tuesday - but always (well, normally) on a Tuesday. As a child, whenever we'd visit my Grandpa James, he'd end the visit by saying "See you Tuesday," no matter when we were scheduled to see him again. So this newsletter is part nod to James Rivers, and part nod to my love of alliteration.
See you Tuesday! TJae
